Summer Intern Spotlight
My name is Caroline Ely and I am an intern at Christ Covenant Church working in partnership with Learning Help Centers of Charlotte this summer. Last week was my first week experiencing LHCC summer camp and I loved every minute of it. Christ Covenant was hosting their youth outreach week on the same week and they were able to send a team of around 10 youth volunteers to join us at LHCC. They loved their time at camp and many of them told me that they had the best outreach site. They were able to come alongside our kids and volunteers to lend a helping hand, make new friends, and lead camp activities with the kids. Some of their highlights included making bracelets, playing soccer with the kids, and leading some field games of their own. We also had the opportunity to join with the LHCC highschoolers and learn about leadership through games and discussion.
I enjoyed diving right into a week of camp and I have learned so much already. I was privileged to assist with leading devotions for the middle and high school girls. It has been such a sweet experience. We discussed our own stories and how they coincide with God’s story. I loved getting to hear from different perspectives, discuss hard questions and talk about how the gospel sheds light on those situations. As the week went by, I enjoyed connecting with the kids and developing friendships with them. They are both energetic and joyful, quick to jump in and try their hand at new skills like cooking or fishing. I am so excited to get to spend two more weeks of camp with these kids and continue to get to know each of them.
