Meet Olivia!
Meet the newest LHCC team member, Olivia!
My name is Olivia Cutshall, and I am so excited to join the team as the new Program Assistant at LHCC! I just graduated from Anderson University with degrees in Spanish and Human Development and Family Studies. For as long as I can remember I’ve had an interest in topics regarding childhood, family dynamics, and psychology. My HDFS program helped me understand prevention and intervention strategies for family support as well as gain a deeper appreciation for each developmental stage of human life! I am also very passionate about serving the Latino population, which began after my first trip to the Dominican Republic in 2018 with my church. Since then, I have returned five times to assist with ESL camps, serve in orphanages, and support other short term missionary teams as an intern of By Grace Alone Ministries.
With the desire to work with families and to support Latino immigrants, I can safely say that being the Program Assistant at LHCC is my dream job. Right out of college, I wanted to dive into my vocational calling to build relationships and partnerships with our underserved neighbors in order to promote dignity and hope in the community. I grew up just outside of Charlotte, so I knew that there were many opportunities for nonprofit work and investing in unity. When I found the position posted by LHCC on the Do Good website, I had never heard of the organization before, but their mission statement and program activities resonated with my own desire to see immigrant families thrive in my city, so I applied!
As of now, I have spent two weeks with LHCC, listening and learning how I can be most helpful to the staff, volunteers, and families. I already have so much love for each person that walks through our doors, and it is clear that relationships run deep between everyone involved. I’ve watched how excited kids and their tutors get to see each other each week, how mothers in the program take care of one another, and how I have been welcomed so hospitably without hesitation. I feel so grateful to be involved with the programs and activities, but even more so, to get to know the people who have been putting in the work before me to set our students up for success. I admire the equal partnership between families and staff, the commitment to Christ-centered teaching, and the community that has formed around LHCC.
