KINSHIP INITIATIVE

LHCC has been providing scholastic, spiritual, and social support to students and their families since 2012 through homework assistance programs, enrichment activities, summer camps, and family stabilization services. We have learned that the most effective and helpful vehicle for change is mutually beneficial relationships which are based on trust and mutual respect.

LHCC is seeking both Community Churches and Social Impact Organizations who depend upon volunteers, in order to create pathways for congregants, from the church sanctuary to local serve opportunities. We offer more than just transactional community service. Could relationships become transformational? Could new relationships develop that transcend friendship to kinship? Our desire is to prove how each party can be something of value to the relationship, and each receives something of value in return. We know that a hand up is better than a hand out; even better are hands together, working to achieve a common goal. That is the essence of kinship. Our Kinship Kitchen pilot is one such way to explore kinship possibilities.

Kinship Kitchen

Learning Help Centers of Charlotte is embarking on a new initiative in 2021, the opening of our first Kinship Kitchen. The concept of Kinship Kitchen is based upon lessons learned from our current programs and during the COVID-19 crisis. We believe that church members generally want to heed the biblical admonition to love their neighbors. However, they often lack avenues by which they can cross cultural barriers to have an impact and form relationships. We also believe that these relationships can be mutually beneficial to those who serve and those who are being served, which is the principle of “Kinship”.

The mission statement for the LHCC Kinship Kitchen is to bring people together around the common necessity of food, and to enjoy cuisine from around the world, as they break bread together, and build lasting kinship relationships.
