Academic Scorecard Instructions Sheet
This is a baseline assessment to track your student's progress in learning and growing. We want to measure the effectiveness of our LHCC program. This assessment will not be a reflection on you as a tutor or of your student, but of our program’s ability to support our kids well. Please answer as accurately as possible.
Willingness to Learn: Level of enthusiasm and interest a student shows towards completing homework/worksheets, reading, or playing educational games
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student does not show interest in engaging in educational tasks and/or refuses to participate in them.
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student shows little interest/excitement in educational tasks, but can be convinced to participate with some effort from the volunteer
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student shows a high level of excitement towards learning and needs little persuasion from the volunteer to engage in educational activities
Receptivity to Volunteer Support: Level of respect and openness a student shows towards his/her tutor
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student does not show respect or openness to the efforts of a volunteer to engage with them (refuses to interact, runs away, fails to answer questions)
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student shows some respect to a volunteer, but may struggle to engage and show appreciation
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student shows a high level of respect and appreciation for a volunteer by smiling, engaging often, and interacting positively
English Reading Ability: Skill level in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and pronunciation
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student does not have an age appropriate skill level in reading in English
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student may have an appropriate or average skill level in reading in English, but may struggle
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student has an excellent or above average skill level in reading in English for his/her age and grade level
English Writing Ability: Skill level in spelling, handwriting, and grammar
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student does not have an age appropriate skill level in writing in English
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student may have an appropriate or average skill level in writing in English, but may struggle
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student has an excellent or above average skill level in writing in English for his/her age and grade level
Math Understanding: Skill level in age/grade appropriate understanding of math
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student does not have an age appropriate skill level in math
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student may have an appropriate or average skill level in math, but may struggle
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student has an excellent or above average skill level in math for his/her age and grade level
Problem-Solving Skills: Skill level in critical thinking, identifying problems, and creating solutions, based on age and grade level
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student does not have an age appropriate grasp on critical thinking and creative problem-solving
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student may have age appropriate grasp on critical thinking and creative problem-solving, but shows gaps in logic skills
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student has an excellent or above average grasp on critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and logical reasoning
Homework Completion: The amount of homework or educational work completed during LHCC tutoring time
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student engages in little to no educational activities such as worksheets, homework, or learning games during tutoring
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student engages in some educational activities such as worksheets, homework, or learning games during tutoring
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student spends most of LHCC tutoring time engaging in educational activities such as worksheets, homework, or learning games
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate well with others and engage positively with other kids and adults (based on the student’s age)
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student is rarely able to communicate positively with others and does not express themselves appropriately
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student is sometimes able to communicate positively with others and express themselves appropriately
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student is often able to communicate positively with others and express themselves appropriately
Emotional Intelligence: Ability to understand and process one’s own emotions and recognize the emotions of others (based on the student’s age)
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student is rarely able to understand and regulate his/her own emotions, and does not show sensitivity to the emotions of others
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student is sometimes able to understand and regulate his/her own emotions, and is able to show sensitivity to the emotions of others
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student is often able to understand and regulate his/her own emotions, and shows sensitivity to the emotions of others
Sense of Safety and Trust: How comfortable the student seems around other kids, adults, different environments, and change
A low score (1-3) would indicate that the student shows a very low level of comfortability around new people and experiences, or a general distrust of the world
A midrange score (4-6) would indicate that the student shows a slightly low level of comfortability around new people and experiences, or a some distrust of the world in general
A high score (7-10) would indicate that the student shows a normal level of comfortability around new people and experiences, or shows a healthy amount of trust towards the world
Attendance: How often the student shows up to LHCC tutoring
A lower score (1-5) would indicate that the student is often absent from LHCC tutoring
A higher score (6-10) would indicate that the student is often present at LHCC tutoring
Participation: How well the student participates in LHCC tutoring
A lower score (1-5) would indicate that the student is often disengaged or resistant to LHCC tutoring activities
A higher score (6-10) would indicate that the student is often engaged and open to LHCC tutoring activities
