Your Summer Could Change Everything

The Call to Show Up

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

— Colossians 3:23–24

At LHCC, we believe service isn’t just a good thing to do; it’s a sacred one. When we show up for our neighbors, when we sit beside a struggling student or speak truth into a teenager’s life, we are participating in something far bigger than ourselves. We are doing the work of the Lord.

And right now, we need you!

This summer and into the fall, LHCC has meaningful, life-giving volunteer opportunities for people at every stage of life. Whether you’re home from college for the summer, looking for ways to invest in your community, or simply sensing that nudge to do something — this is your invitation.

1. One Week of Summer Camp. A Lifetime of Impact.

Daniela is 23 years old and a mentor now for Next Gen Rise who has been a part of the LHCC program for almost a decade. She still tutors. She tells anyone who will listen that the years she spent volunteering at LHCC reshaped the entire direction of her life — what she wants to do, who she wants to be, what she believes she’s here for. I two words, its to “give back” to her community.

She didn’t have a dramatic testimony when she started. She just had a Tuesday afternoon and a willingness to try.

Maybe that’s all you have too. That’s enough.

2. For High School and College Students: Make Your Summer Count

Hey college students, July and August don’t have to be just a countdown to the next semester.

We’re looking for college students to join our Summer Enrichment Camp Program, a short-term volunteer program designed specifically for you. Whether you’re back in town for just a few weeks or the whole summer break, there is a place for your energy, your creativity, and your gifts right here at LHCC.

Opportunities include mentoring youth in our summer programs, leading activities and events for local kids, supporting community outreach initiatives, and helping with administrative and creative projects that keep our ministry running strong.

You’ll gain real-world experience, build genuine relationships, and discover what it means to live a life oriented around something greater than yourself. Many of our most committed long-term volunteers started exactly where you are — with a summer, an open schedule, and a willingness to say yes.

3. Tutors Needed: Walk Beside a Child Who’s Still Finding Their Way

When school starts back up in September, hundreds of elementary-age children in our community will return to classrooms already behind, often struggling with confidence that comes from being seen and believed in, reading or math .

You can be the person who changes that.

Our LHCC Elementary Tutoring Program pairs trained volunteers with students in grades K–5 who need one-on-one academic support. No teaching degree required — just patience, consistency, and a heart to show up week after week for a child who needs someone in their corner.

Like others before you, you may walk in thinking you’re there to give. And you’ll find, somewhere along the way, that you’re receiving just as much. The gift of trust from a child is one of the most humbling and beautiful things a person can experience. We call this kinship

4. Mentors Needed: Next Gen Rise Is Looking for You

High school is hard. It’s four years of enormous pressure for our Latino students, shifting identity, difficult choices, and wondering whether anyone truly sees them for who they are and who they could become.

Next Gen Rise, LHCC’s high school mentorship program, exists to make sure no teenager has to navigate those years alone.

We’re recruiting mentors for the upcoming school year ~ men and women willing to walk alongside a high school student, meet with them regularly twice a month, speak life into them, and model what it looks like to live with integrity, purpose, and faith. This isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about showing up, being present, and refusing to let a young person feel invisible. We also have sessions every six weeks where we learn from professionals in their industry helping students navigate their career choices.

The research is clear: a consistent, caring adult and mentoring relationship is one of the most powerful forces in a young person’s life. You don’t have to be a counselor or a pastor. You just have to be willing.

Quick Details

Starting: September, for the full academic year

Time Commitment: 2–4 hours per month, plus occasional group events

Who: Adults 21+ with a heart for youth, willing to undergo background check and brief training

“It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Those words aren’t a platitude — they’re a promise. Every patient hour with a struggling reader, every honest conversation with a teenager who’s searching, every summer afternoon poured into someone else’s life; it matters and every effort counts!

Ready to Serve?

We’d love to talk with you about where you might fit. Whether you’re available this summer or ready to commit to the school year starting in September, reach out and let’s find your place.
