Mentoring Matters

At LHCC, we believe that students are set up for success when there is a village behind them to support, encourage, and to call them higher. That is why last fall, we began our first ever teen mentoring program, where high schoolers were matched with mentors, and they committed to attending monthly workshops on various relevant topics. We have explored college and career readiness, academic success, and Biblical truths about identity.

This month, we had the privilege of diving into the topic of faith formation. We discussed practices for engaging prayer, scripture, and godly community. We shared questions and stories. We listened and reflected.

Not only do our high schoolers receive support and teaching, but they also give back to their community through their involvement with LHCC. They have lead activities for our younger students, worked to clean and organize our space, and even pampered our group of moms during a Valentine's Day celebration. There was hair braiding, nail painting, and lots of smiles shared. These opportunities required planning, organization, and a servant’s heart, and our teenagers rose to the responsibility beautifully.

As we look ahead to the next school year, we plan to welcome seven rising 9th graders into the mentoring program. We are excited to watch them grow, and hopeful for how the Lord will work in their lives. Our biggest need is more mentors! By pairing all seven students with a compassionate adult, we hope to facilitate fruitful friendship, thoughtful conversation, and a steady support system for our students. Do you know someone who would make a great mentor? Do you have one evening a month to spare, pouring into the life of a high school student?

Join us in our mission to help young people thrive, not only for their well-being, but for their families, their community, and all the people they will meet in their individual journeys.
