Let me tell you my story …

My name is Meghan Miller and I am the Operations Lead at LHCC and it is an honor to share my first blogpost. I have completed 10 months of learning and experiencing what LHCC is all about. I’d like to share some insights with you this Christmas.

We are just a few days away from wrapping up 2022 and I am hopeful that everyone is gearing up to celebrate the holidays with friends and family. LHCC has had a successful and fulfilling year, and we are looking forward to all that the Lord has in store for 2023.

In late February of 2022, I took a leap of faith when I decided to change careers. God orchestrated everything, from nudging me to read LHCC’s website, to showing me an opportunity to serve my community just a half mile from my house. As an LHCC Mom said to me just days ago, “nothing is a coincidence.” This was in reference to her story with finding LHCC, and this seems to be a common theme for many involved. This discussion with myself and other moms in our program has left me reflecting on our organization, the people that make it up, and what makes it so special.

Simply put, relationships are the backbone of LHCC. I have had numerous conversations with board members, volunteers, parents, kids, and partners of LHCC during this time and they have shown me just how important these relationships are. This is what keeps everyone invested, coming back, and inspired to serve. It is a joy to see and hear the stories about our volunteers and kids. Some kids and families have years of history with one another and experiences that have changed the course of their lives. In other cases, I have watched new volunteers build relationships with kids in such a short amount of time. The kids light up each week when they see their volunteers and I would venture to say that the volunteers feel the same way. It isn’t always about the academic successes made, but the small victories during a game of UNO or learning something new about one another that keeps the relationships growing. I have quickly learned that we can’t do what we do without the help of volunteers. They go above and beyond from planning our weekly devotions for kids, helping us organize and plan events, to communicating with the kid’s teachers at school. Their ideas, heart, and commitment to the organization have been crucial to our growth and our goals for the future.

Another relationship I would like to touch on is the one we have with our families, and their dreams and aspirations for their kids. I recently told a group of moms that they were superheroes. I had just listened to what they want for their kids, and it left me humbled and misty eyed. Witnessing all they do and what they sacrifice for their kids is truly inspiring. Our parents have overcome more than I can imagine, and they are some of the hardest working individuals I know. At the end of the day, they want their children to be leaders, change their community, and have all the opportunities and experiences they might not have had. Their support and trust of our organization is vital, and we don’t take that lightly. I can only hope that if you haven’t interacted with our parents yet, that you get to do so early in 2023.

In summary, relationships are the threads woven within LHCC and they make up so many stories. Everyone that has had a hand in our organization is helping us write our story and shape the lives of so many. I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given within LHCC and I look forward to 2023 and the plans He has for us.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
