Celebrating The Moms of LHCC

March 8th was International Women’s Day and the whole month celebrated Women’s History Month. We wanted to take a moment to celebrate the women of Learning Help Centers of Charlotte, specifically the moms of our program. These women are the backbone of their families and of our organization.

LHCC has been built on connecting and building relationships with families in the Charlotte community. When families arrive at LHCC it is 9 times out of 10, the mom and her kids. A lot of this is due to working dads not being able to attend the program, but we have a lot of single moms too. We love getting to know the LHCC Dads and appreciate all they do, but this article is for the madres!

Every family has their own unique story, but at the center of every mom in the program is a common thread. They all came to the United States and take part in our program to give their kids a better life and to help provide them with as many resources and opportunities as they can. The women work all day and most of them have to work on the weekends too in order to support their family. They plan their work schedule accordingly on Tuesdays and Thursdays so their family can participate in our programs. Almost every single time a new family comes to LHCC it is because another mom has referred them. They tell their neighbors, relatives, and friends about us and that is how LHCC has sustained participation through the years. At the end of the day they attend LHCC for their kids, but they have made lifelong friends and community along the way. These women are active participants and planners in our programming. They provide feedback on the needs of their family, serve dinner - set up-and clean up every Tuesday, provide food and help plan our family/community events, and are active participants in their children’s experience with us. They not only support one another through prayer, conversation, and fellowship, but they do this with LHCC Staff as well. They allow us into their lives and we are so grateful for their transparency and vulnerability.

The moms of LHCC are truly an inspiration to our organization and their families. Their kids are a reflection of their determination, hard work, and compassion for serving their family and community. Our organization would not be where it is today without their help and support. We want to say THANK YOU to these amazing women and remind them that they are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God.
