Good morning LHCC volunteers,
We hope that everyone is doing well and staying healthy. If you have not seen our latest LHCC Mobile Meals video or blogpost, you can access them both here.
We are into week 9 of delivering kids meals. We continue to see increased need for food and educational materials. Last month, we helped five families with anonymous rent contributions. More importantly, we seek to offer a glimpse of hope for many who remain cooped up in crowded apartments. It’s high time to get outside…
In celebration of the start of stage 1, Friday May 8, LHCC is going to support a Trees for Trash drop-in event, presented by one of our Summer Camp partners, NC Wildlife Federation and Go University, this Friday, for our families and volunteers at Archdale Park, from 4pm to 6pm. Why are we doing this, you might ask. We’re inviting all our LHCC families and new community neighbors, as well as awesome volunteers, to come out and enjoy some park time. Here’s what we are organizing.
- Schools are encouraging children to get outdoors and do some good, by picking up trash at local parks and greenways
- LHCC is encouraging families to come out of hiding, so to speak, and visit the local park within walking distance of where the majority of our families reside. We are now helping 150% more children than we did back in early March
- LHCC is providing a drop-in cook-out, during and after the park trash collection, so that we can provide some cooked food as well as delicious cake, prepared by our team. Social distancing and masks in place and no groups greater than 10, of course.
Why not connect with your family and student(s), encourage them to come out and visit with them for a meal? Dinner, refreshments and cake will be provided.
Thank you for helping to connect with our children and families. Your outpouring of love and care is so appreciated by our families. One of our volunteers has had regular contact with all of her students, for reading and homework help. Mom’s are extremely grateful for the connections and regular calls.
Blessings to you all, and continued prayers for healthy families, both emotionally and physically. Please contact me with any questions or comments.
Honored to serve alongside you.
