Volunteer & Summer Internship Opportunities

LHCC provides a fun way to build sustainable relationships with students, and their families, while providing learning capabilities critical to their academic growth. In addition, we have volunteer opportunities that fit with your schedule, after-hours, on Saturdays, and during the summer months. You can make an impact, one child at a time, if you can help for just an one hour a week.

You can easily sign-up using our Volunteer Sign-up Form

Opportunity One – Weekly After-school Enrichment

We seek adult and high-school volunteers for after-school homework and reading support. This takes place at our new St. Andrews United Methodist Church location for South Blvd children and their families Google Map from 5:15pm until 6:45pm, on Tuesdays

This is your weekly opportunity to serve in a comfortable child-friendly environment, and participate as an individual or group! View a short video (password = silent) to learn about the positive impact you or your group can have as serving volunteers, at one of our learning centers during the CMS school year. See what our volunteers have to say about their volunteer experiences.

Opportunity Two – Monthly Community Events

Monthly community events are family-friendly and designed for variety and weekend family-engagement.

Volunteer friendly outdoor community events will resume shortly.

Visit our Face Book page for further details of upcoming serve events, including the Martin Luther King serve event on January 13, with our partner Hands On Charlotte.

After-School Enrichment Schedule

Our After-school & Homework and Reading Support Program benefits children for the 2017/8 CMS school year. Our weekly children’s program is directed at marginalized at-risk children at a location near you.  Elementary school children are from Title 1 schools and  are typically one or two grade levels behind on reading and math. The programs include character development, devotions, and volunteer assistance with homework, literacy support including reading and math in a comfortable safe environment where relationships are built “one child at a time”. There are children just waiting to meet you. Just come and visit and see the difference you can make in a child’s life, whether once a week, or once a month.

Should the start time below are not conducive to your arrival, please don’t despair. We have need for volunteers after our weekly children’s devotions and refreshments, so arriving 30 minutes after start time is not a problem. If you are interested in assisting a local school during the school day, please email us to get connected.
